Attorney General Merrick B. Garland Testifies on Tuesday

Attorney General Merrick B. Garland was sworn in as the 86th Attorney General of the United States on March 11, 2021.

Garland, an American lawyer and jurist, has served in this role since 2021 in the administration of President Joe Biden.

Prior to his appointment as Attorney General, Garland served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1997 to 2021.

On Tuesday, Attorney General Garland testified before the House Judiciary Committee about the Justice Department's investigation into the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

During his testimony, Garland said that he has never spoken to former President Donald Trump about the investigation.

The House voted Wednesday to hold Attorney General Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over documents related to the investigation.
